Willem Dafoe has boarded Relativity Media's thriller Out of the Furnace. He joins a cast which includes Christian Bale, Casey Affleck, Zoe Saldana, Sam Shepard, Woody Harrelson and Forest Whitaker.
The film follows an ex-con who attempts to blend into his new surroundings in an Indiana town, but is haunted by a figure from his past. Scott Cooper is directing from his own original screenplay.

Based on Brad Ingelsby’s story ‘The Low Dweller,’ the dark drama centers
on a man (Bale) released after serving four years in prison. His hopes
for a peaceful homecoming are thwarted when his younger brother is
brutally murdered and he sets out for revenge. Christian Bale plans to
shoot ‘Out of the Furnace’ in the Spring before moving on to his ‘The
Dark Knight Rises’ .
